I love this photo because it reminds of of how much of a difference caregivers can make in someone's life. My mom loved to go do things. She was so active when she was young, she saw zero reason to change that as she aged. But of course it got more difficult to arrange and for her to go do things, she needed assistance. Because of caregivers, In her last years of life she went to the Rodeo, car races, baseball games, family reunions, and even the Clint Black concert, where, true story, she pretended to be the fiddle players grandmother so she could sit on the front row in her walker. Everyone around her, believed her and stayed around to meet him when he came to be with his grandma. They started chanting "come see grandma!" after the show, and so he came out and quickly figuring out from the twinkle in her eye what she was up to, he pretended to be her grandson with her. There is a picture of them together somewhere and its adorable. Afterwards, she stayed and signed autographs. As his grandmother! This memory could not have happened, if her caregiver had not prioritized her and knowing she wanted to go do things, took her out all the time. So many caregivers took such good care of my mom for so many years, and they all have my unending gratitude. PS. She was an amazing person, we all adored her and spoiled her, and she even had a tik tok channel! PPS. don't get me started about the time she almost got us thrown out of the Merle Haggard concert because she rushed the stage, haha!

"Hospital at home" trend is making at home care more essential than ever. There's a huge need for caregivers nationwide, which care agency would you recommend?

There are so many wonderful care agencies out there, and they are doing such great work. I used a home care agency with my parents and I think it is important to speak to several care agencies before making a decision, and also to ask questions. Interview the representative of the agency to find out about their service so you feel comfortable with the choice you make.

It is really great to see so many companies that share in the passion of taking care of our elderly and disabled populations. I picked this stock photo because it shows joy. We need more joy in this world.

Care giving makes such a difference in people's lives. I'll never forget some of my parents special caregivers, we had 2-3 of them attend my mom's service and they were like family to us. The work you do as a caregiver is some of the most important work possible. I'm so grateful for the caregivers of the world.

Do You Consider Yourself a Caregiver? You spend time helping a loved one every week – because you care about them and they need help. Simple as that. You take them to the doctor, pick up their prescriptions, make sure they take their medication, and maybe even perform some wound care. You sort mail and pay bills. And help with the cooking and the laundry. But when you fill in a form with a space that asks for your loved one’s caregiver – you put “none.” Because you don’t consider yourself a caregiver, and you’re not alone in that. The AARP Caregiver Identification study found that only 19% of caregivers consider themselves caregivers. There’s lots of discussion about why someone might not want to admit (to themselves or others) that they are not a caregiver. Some say it is the societal expectation that a “family problem” is private. Others suggest it is a sense of duty. Still, others say it is a form of denial – not accepting that your loved one is “that sick.” They just need “some help.” READ MORE https://carewisesolutions.com/do-you-consider-yourself-a-caregiver/
